What Has Changed on Island Newspapers

Welcome to the newly upgraded islandnewspapers.ca!

While all of the content on the site remains the same, you'll notice we've made some changes to how the site looks and how you interact with the digitized newspaper collection.

Here is a quick overview of some of the major changes and some tips on using the new site

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Keltie MacPhail at kmacphail@upei.ca

Searching the newspaper collection

We've put together a separate Search Tips Page to help you use some of the new search features.

Major changes include:

  • Location of Search Filters: The search filters are now on the right side of the page, rather than the left.
  • Changes to Date Filters: A new Year/Month/Day filter lets you filter by specific Year, Year-Month, and Year-Month-Day combinations.
  • Changes to search word highlighting: when you click on a search result, the new system will not automatically highlight your search term on the page for you.  You'll need to use the search within a page feature to highlight your search term on the page. See our Reading and Searching In a Newspaper Issue or Page for instructions on searching within a page.

Browsing the newspaper collection

We have a new method for browsing issues of a particular newspaper.

Instead of the calendar display, you can now use the Newspaper Issues drop-down menus.

See the Using the New Newspaper Issue Menu page for more details

Viewing a Newspaper Issue or Page

Reading and searching within a newspaper issue or page has also been upgraded with a new viewing tool.

See Reading and Searching In a Newspaper Issue or Page for more details.
