Search Help
IslandNewspapers.ca provides a number of methods to search. Using Advanced Search you can search using keywords or phrases. You can search specific fields including Full text, Date (more info), and Newspaper Name.
If you wanted to search for pages containing the phrase Flying Farmer, you would select the Full text field and enter the phrase "Flying Farmer" in quotes. Phrase Searching |
Combine Fields in a SearchIf you wanted to find all the pages with the phrase "Flying Farmer" and the term Clinton you would add an additional search field by selecting the + icon. |
Date-based SearchingIf you wanted to find all the pages with the phrase "Flying Farmer" that were published in the 1940s you would select the Date field and enter 194* Date based searching requires you to follow a particular format. In the example above we searched for all papers in the 1940s using the date 194*. If you wanted to find all the papers published in 1948 you would use the date 1948*. For all the papers published in September of 1948, you would use the date 1948-09*. To search for all of the papers published on September 27, 1948, you would enter 1948-09-27*.
Text-based Date SearchingA new feature we have added is the ability to search for dates as you would for text. Unlike that the standard Date search a text based search doesn't require you to use a wildcard. Example searches include 1940, 19480927, etc. |
