UPEI SUN Jan. 27, 1983 ’7 ByMICKEY PLACE Recently, after a partic— ularly sad Panther weekend, a friend remarked that he could- n't understand how we could retain our enthusiasm for the Panther cause when we must ex- perience so much frustration over their frequent losses. We replied that the joy attained after victory more than can— pensated for the depression we might sometimes feel over lack of athletic success. . . . it feels 3) good when we win! Such euphoria was certainly felt by the basketball fans who crowdedour gym on Sunday, when the buzzer sounded to end the exiting thrilling game in which we bested old rival, St. Marys 78-71. Throughout the contest, up to the very end, no more than four points sep- . arated the two. It was 38-38 at the half, 66-62 for us with 7 minutes to go, 70-68 with 2'1/2 minutes to go and 74—70 with less than a minute on the clock. At that point, S.M.U. made only the first of two foul shots, they then got the ball outside but missed on one that rolled around the hoop. Our Mike Morgan made a remarkable rebound and passed to Billy Rednond who, in turn, was fouled before he could shoot. Billy made the first, Coach Hilton cal- led a time out, Billy went to the line, looked over his shoulder at the Panther bench and winked, then sank the sec- ond throw that really put the game away. High for us was Bill Redmond with 24 and Tyrone Norman had 16. The team plays at Mount A. on Friday and will host high flying Dal. and Dave Nut- brcwn's Acadia the following weekend. The race for, playoff spots is an intense one and it appears that the really big weekend will be the 18th and 19th Feb. when U.N.B. will be here for a pair. We do believe we'll be in Hal‘ ifax for the finals on the 4th runs: HELP WANTED Sun International, Inc. is currently seeking a limited number of area people to han- dle and process posiage paid bulk mail.
