Despite the rapidly developing political
activity in both party camps. and the
very general belief that the Dominion
slections are near at hand, no one appears
to know dellnitely the date when the
trial of strength between parties is to
take place. It would seem probable that
the bst Cabinet Council did not fix the
date. Ministers want to visit their pro-
vinces and find out how the political feel-
ing is, to harmonise differences. place
candidates and have everything in readi-
ness. Of course it may bealready arrang-
ed, ut Tin: Guanniarz is of opinion that
another Cabinet Council must yet be
held before the date of the elections is flx~
ed.

census figures so far made 'publlc cou-
cludes it is reasonably certain that the
population of the United States does no
exceed 75,000,000. About one~third of the
people live in cities, or towns of over 8,000
inhabitants each. The population of the
Republic ten years ago was 62,622,250.
A gain of twelve or thirteen millions in
ten years ought to be reasonably satisfac
tory, even if some Sanguine persons had
expected something more.
