THE UPEI SUN,’Ihursday,Sept.28,I978,page Red Sox Feeling Blue!! about his Yankees. He gave up on them as soon as they fell behind. "It is too bad that one team had to lose" is a quote that has long been overused but one which I honestly feel reflects what took place on .‘vbnday afternoon at Fenway Park in Boston. I must confess that I was glad to see the Yankees win both because I happen to like the Yankees and secondlybecause if they didn't win I would be abused by the Red Sox fans from now until kingdom ccne. However, I still feel the Yankees are the better team. I know people could argue that point but the measure of greatness is the ability to win the big one. The Yankees won the big one. They did it in Boston's hone park and they did it coming from behind. One thing that I feel has to be mentioned is the Red Sox and their fans. I have been ridiculing the Bean- towners but even I must admit that they are one of sports' finest (excluding the Habs supporters). 'Ihey stud< with their team throughout and their team is one of the guttiest I have seen. They never quit and deserve a great deal of admiration. I honestly feel sorry for the Red Sox and their fans because they should have won the title without the playoff game. 'Iheir fans never gave up on them when other teams' supporters would have crucified their heroes if they had blown a big lead. Hell, there is one well- known Yankees' supporter who conceded the playoff game in the fifth inning and should not brag OCI‘.6 4:00 p.m. OCI'.6 4:00 p.m. OCI‘.7 1:30 p.m. ACADIA The Yankees do not have good fans. rIhey have pessimists for the most part. The only difference is that the Yankee A players are winners. They are truly diampions and it will take one very very good team to dethrone them. Finally I would like to reiterate a point I made a couple of weeks ago. Winners know how to win and when the dust cleared at Fenway last Monday they had done it again. And of course the winning blow was dealt by the biggest winner of all, the finest clutch performer in the game today. ’me man who does what he. says he will do. . . Keeping that mind, I expect to see a large and rwdy crowd Saturday afternoon at MacAdam Field for our football game against Acadia. - Keeping with the tradition of this column and making predictions I unfortunately must rate our guys as definite underdogs in . the upcaning game. If the weather is fine Acadia will win by up- wards of 15. Inclenent weather and it could be ‘ close. Panther hockey team plays at SherWood on Saturday night at. Sportsplex.
