Senior Men's volleyball team have retained ‘possession of third place as .a result of the weekly compit- ,ion on Thursday night, October 28. The University team lost two games to the second place Pumas. 15-11 and 15-13: they won two games from fourth place C.F.B. Summerside. 15- 10 and 15-3: and they split games with the Prince County Juniors. 15-6 for us and 13- 15 against. The UPEI Football Panthers clashed with the UNB Red Bom- _bers in Fredericton last Sat., Oct 30. and came out ahead with a 20-15 score over UNB. This,was their last game of the season, and it brought their win and loss record to 3 of each. ‘ In other league play last week. Saint Mary's and Mount Allison won their games ag- ainst Dalhousie and Acadia respectively. ' . There is only one more we week of league play, ending on Nov. 6, when UPEI has the bye. On that day Saint FX plays at Dalhousie. Saint Mary's is at Mount Allison, and UNB meets Acadia in Wolf- ville. If Acadia wins their match with UNB, they will be. ptied with UPEI and Mount A1- lison in third place, with identical 3 and 3 records, but if Acadia loses. they will be in fifth place and UPEI in undisputed possession of third place (since UPEI best Mount A.) Nov. 13. The University of Western ‘Ontario Mustangs will clash with the Saint Mary's Huskies 'to decide the eastern Cana- dian champion. The winner of that match will go to To- ronto the_following weekend. Nov. 20, to play against the ‘Western champion, in the Canadian College Bowl, at Varsity Stadium. WMEN'S The Women's varsity Field 'Hockey Team competed in the A .W .1 0A -A a Tournament at Acadia October 29-30. After winning in their divisom,by beating St. F.X. h—O and tieing with Memorial ‘ O-O,the U.P.E.I. team went on to lose to U.N.B. J.V's 2-1. and tied with Dalhousie 0-0 in their final game. In the final standings,‘ 'Dalhousfe was in first place iU.N.B. J.V's took second p1ace,and U.P.E.I. ended up ,in third place out of nine teams competing. Goals were scored by Lynn Crosby (2),Teresa Kaizer(2) and Margaret MacDonald (1). Any girls who are inter- ested on being on the Women's Varsity Basketball team are urged to attend basketball practise and get in touch with Barb Mullally. The times .ror practices are Monday at 6:00, Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.. Wednesday at 6:00, Thursday at 5830. Coach Mullally hopes to have the team picked by the end of practice on Monday or' Tuesday next week. The Women's Volleyball team will be taking part in 'league competion scheduled 'for C.F.B. Summerside on Saturday, Nov. 6. ' . This is also the same day and Place for a Ménls Volley- ‘ball Tournament.‘ ‘ VARSITY HOCKEY This year's version of the Hockey Panthers showed their strength when the defeated the powerful team from Sir George Williams University on Sunday, Oct 31, by a score of 0-3. The score was tied at the end of the first two periods at 1-1 and 3-3,re- spectively. The Panthers were able to maintain their lead with a single unanswered goal in the third period. 'scoring for U.P.E.I. were 'Jim"'Hedges” MacDonald,Alvin Hacket.Allen MacAdam. and Billy Weatherbie.Assists went to Billy and Bobby Doc- herty,Luc Bedard,”Hedges” and Marcel Paiement. On November 5 and6,the Hockey Panthers will be competing in a Hockey Tourn- ament at St. F.X. Other teams taking part will be St. Mary's Acadia, Dalhousie.and St. F.XX. On November 13 and 1h, they will be travelling to :St. John's,Nfld..to meet the Memorial University 'Beothuks,in two league games. They will be leaving Saturday at 10:00 and re— turning to Charlottetown at approximately 9:00 p.m. Sunday.
