Much of the enthusiasm over Kung Fu has been stimulated. by a whole group of movies made recently on the subject.‘ There is even a television show on the subject now ca; lied Kung Fu. The greatest hero of the Kung Fu mania was Bruce Lee until his de- ath recently. One of his best known movies has been "Fist of Fury". The movie had rather a st- upid plot that made it pos-' sible for there to be al- most constant fighting. In fact, almost half of the movie was Kung Fu fighting. It was as bloody a movie as anybody would ask for, but it also had drugs, sex and a little love affair which made it the complete round- ed out movie. _ The movie begins with Bruce Lee going with his uncle to visit with his cousins who he has never met. He wears a necklace around his neck When the muscle man of the beach would kick sand in your face in the past, you would have to go out and buy a super exercise pro- gram that would make you muscle bound in three short weeks. The new image isn't to look like a wrestler at all, in fact you can be sm- all, meek and wear glasses but if you know one of the Oriental arts of self defe- nse, you've got it made. First it was judo, and being able to throw any opponent.r Then it was karate and being able to knock somebody out with one swing of the arm. After these and other forms of self defense have run their course the main one to emerge has been Kung Fu which is a combination of all forms of Oriental self defense. on which he has promised his mother never to fight. Throughout the beginning of the movie he keeps running into fights. He feels that he should get involved in them, but he only watches while he clutches the neck- lace in his hand._ - ' He gets a job working with his cousins working at an ice packing plant at which the main process is freezing packages of dope into blocks of ice. In order to keep the secrecy of the dope op- eration, a few of the men have been killed, includ- ing two of Bruce Lee's cou- sins. The plot gets heavier as he tries to find out what happened to his cousins. During one fight, which he is only watching, because of his vow, a man rips the chain off of his neck. He gets into the fight and - Sat., 10 - 5, Sun. ‘2 - < J endslup taking on about ten men by himself. The fights get heavier and heavier until at the end he ends up taking on two groups of a- bout ten men and kills all of them for a grand finale. The first thing that must be.kept in mind about these follow ups to the spagetti westerns is that they are all filmed in Chinese. As a result, you have dubbed in voices that don't match the movements of the lips. That, in itself, isn't bad, it's just that the voices 'that thry used were so ter- rible. To even make it wor- se were the North American slang terms they used. To hear an-0riental saying such things was just ab- surd. ' Since the whole movie does revolve around the fighting, an added emphasis is always added to it. Such things are done as running the film at slow Speed when somebody . jumps into the air to kick somebody, not to mention the added sound for everyt- ime somebody gets hit. It sounds like caps being ' ‘shot off inside a paper bag. You could always tell who Bruce Lee was fighting be- cause the bad guys all loo- ked like Chinese greaserss Greased back hair, tight pants, the complete sha-na-- na image except for their slanted eyes. I could go on about other absurdities of the movie, but the movie didn‘t have, to be good, it just had to: show a lot of fighting. It is in many ways, similar to a skin flick. Some kind of story is thought up to str- ing together different sex scenes. The Bruce Lee movi- es simply have a plot that will show a lot of Kung Fu.*
