UPEI STUDENT UNION NEWSLETTER | President’s Message Hello and welcome back to another exciting year at UPEI. We have had an extremely busy summer trying to get everything prepared for the upcoming semester, and things are shaping up. Thanks to NSO coordina- tor Chris Power and his team of dedi- cated leaders, we experienced one of the most successful orientation weeks ever giving us a great start for the year. While participating in the events of the week, I was so enthused by all of the spirit I saw coming onto this campus. Lots of people expressed interest in volunteering for commit- tees, running for council and simply helping out wherever necessary. With so many keeners I am sure we are in for a great year! Unfortunately we witnessed a disappointing set back in the develop- ment of the new Student Centre. The fire at the Alumni Gym threw us a tiny bit off schedule and we're cur- rently looking at a three-week delay. As we can all see regardless of this set back, things are running smoothly and we're definitely back on track. We have a ton of exciting events and ini- tiatives planned for the year, and with your help and enthusiasm UPEI will be better that ever. If there is one piece of advice I can pass on to you it would be to make the best of your short time here, get involved as much as possible. Join’ a club or society, run for council, yol- -unteer for committees, go to your fac- ulty lounges, talk to your classmates, communicate with your professors and take advantage of all the useful services on campus. We are SO privi- leged to be able to attend such a great university, let's not take it for granted! If there is anything you'd like to dis- cuss with me (helpful hints, problems, etc.) please get in touch with me. I can be reached by phone at 566-0398 or e-mail suprez@upei.ca or drop by the Barn. I love visitors! I'm really excited about this year and I honestly hope everyone else is too.
