MacArthur) _Withln sound of the murmuring mill-stream that threads its way across the sleeping meadow; n! Cornwall, and hard by the old schoolhouse where she and I often played in days gone by, Mary Drake sleeps tonight. p A short distance from these hal- lowed scenes lie the familiar fields of her childhood home, and farther on the home to which she was token as a bride scarcely a decade ago. And now, for her, this is the end a? a Journey over the highway of e. No longer can the billowy storms of this world wrinkle that serene brow, spin silver threads among the dark. or cause tears to flow from eyes which angels have closed in death. Tonight she lies under the bosom of her native land. and beside the silent fomis cf schoolmates gone before. But I like to think of my late friend as one who is only asleep, that when the dewy-fingered Spring returns to deck her mound, she will be conscious of the sigh- ing breeze sweeping over her bier, of the melodious songs of the birds: of the beautiful flowers blossoming forth in all their glory; of the mur- muring mllistream that knowseso many secrets of the golden past. Yes. I like to think that, because oi this heavenly music and he- cause of this happy picture-which she loved so well—my revered schoolmats is only asleep.
