PROFITABLE AFFAIR.--The Hail-
lowe’en Supper held in Victoria Haill
on Tuesday evening Oct. 31, was n dec-

was decorated for the occassion with
spruce, owls, watches., black cats ,and

in Hallowe’en style' while the waitres-

istician, has compiled figures to show
that the' requisitions made by the Ger-
man army forces in Belgium have
more than offset the losses sustaine'd
by the Germans when the first success-
full Russian drive began. Prof. Ballod's
figures are appalling and after reading
what the Germans- took out of Belgium
nt the start it is not to be wondered
that the people of that country are
starving today.

WOUNDED PET DOG
BACK FROM 'FRONT.

brindle bull dog. who is back wound-
ed. The dog was smuggled over to
the firing line by Private Klonltsky.

sky enlisted at St. John
N. B., and brought his
pet dog with him. He cleverly‘|
eluded the vigilance of the officers by
putting the dog in his kit bag when
leaving England for the front. The
most peculiar fact of it is that the pet
dog was wounded the same day as the
owner, May 24th lust.

garding tha torpedoing of the Greek
ship Angelika shows that another
crime against the usage of civilized
warfare must be added, to the ghast-
ly history of the German submarine
warfare. The vessel left Pierus at 7
o'clock in the evening having on
board 150 officers-and men ,who were
