STUDENT UNION NEWSLETTER Message from the SU President Hello Everyone! All is well here at the Stuedent Union. It's been a busy semester updating policy and Student Union by-laws. Planning is ongoing for the New Student Centre and we're excited to be starting construction after next semester. The Student Union held lobbying meetings with the Minister of Education and the department of Student Aid. Among other initiatives we hope to have full details regarding the "Island Prize" Program this wek. We will be notifying students as soon as the information is in. Please pick up your health plan rebate at the Student Union office if you haven't done so already. Those cheques that aren't picked up before the Christmas break will be sent back to the Accounting Office and credited to your student account prior to the start of second. 1999-2000 Yearbooks If you graduated from UPEI i nthe spring of 2000 or placed a prepaid order your yearbook can be picked up at. the Student Union office or the Yearbook office located in the basement of Main Building. If you wish to purchase a 2000 Yearbook cost is $10.00. The 2000-2001 Yearbook is look- ing for volunteers. For more infor- mation please contact Becky Rogers at 566-0708 or email stu- dentu@upei.ca. ISIC cards are available at the Student Union office free of charge for all full time UPEI students. Proof of full time status and a pass- port photo is required from the stu- dent to issue the card. So to be sure to get your ISIC card at the Student Union office prior to your departure to save on. your travel costs. For ticket information call Travel Cuts at 1-800-279- 4544. The Health Centre is located in the basement of Marion Hall. There will be a doctor in the centre at the I hope that everyone has had a great first semester at UPEI, and exams haven't hit you too. hard. Remember it's only one exam of one course of your entire universi- ty career... so don't stress out. We've been busy at the Student Union trying to get students out to our events and suupporting our ath- letics... way to go to the UPEI men's soccer team for their effort during the AUS finals! There has been a lot of action’‘on UPEI Campus with great student participation. Be sure to check out the year end pub in the Panther Lounge and to get your tickets: for the annual New Year's Eve gala before they're sold out! The Barn‘has hosted several successful main events in addition to the usual ste- lar entertainment, and things are looking good for second semester. We are planning on organizing events for Winter Carnaval, taking place near near the end of January. We are seeking volunteers so if you want to get involved and are inter- ested in sitting on this Committee contact me at 566-0648. I hope that exams go well for everyone.
