Following the serving. an enjoyable program was presented by the girls. which included piano selections by Greta Wigginton and songs by the C. G. l. T. girls. The leader of this group is Mrs. Lloyd Fraser. Montague Man Has Kitchen Stove For 61 Years This is the story of a kitchen stave whose history goes back some 67 years. And all that time it has been in continuous operation. The owner is Mr. George Rourke of Montague North. and was purch- ased in 1884 at J. D. Bell's, a general store which was operating in Mon- tague at that time. Not only is the stove still functioning and in you- derful condition, but also the same store pipe which was purchased with the stove. Perhaps some would like to hear something of the life of this gen- tleman who owns this masterpiece. To begin at the beginning, Mr. Rourke was bom in 190, 92 years ago on his homestead, Montague North. He was only a young man when he became a. member of the Baptist Church, and married Miss Katie Martin. of Queen's Road. It was shortly after they were mar- ried that he bought the stove. A number of years after the death or his first wife. Mr. Rourke mar- ried Miss Bella Macneod of Uigg. one daughter was born to this union, who beside; her father was left to mourn -when in 1905 Mrs. Rourke passed away. In 1913. Mr. Rourke married his present wife. Mrs. Lowther, who was formerly from the western part of the Island. when necessary Mr. Rourke walks to Montague, some three to four miles away. cardigan And Vicinity Mr. Lemuel F. McDonald. and three or the younger boys were heard in it vocal trio. with Mrs.-M. N. Beck acting as piano accompanist. Among the large number who gathered to celebrate at the open- ing were Mrs. 1'-IA. Large. M:s. L.W. Shaw, and Mrs. W. Aylvward. An excellent supper was provided by the ladies of the women's Instit- ute of St. Peters. The attractive new building. de- signed by Mr. rtorman. has glass blocks inserted in the southern wall. and this feature, together with the heating system. toilet fac- ilities, and general practicability of the entire structure drew much praise from those in attendance.
