We have e gigentfc paving program to put into effect just as soon as it‘ is possible to start next spring. 0! IIIIDI Benefit ‘Ito paving of these roads ces- teirily will mean that our farmers will not have to contend with muddvroeds in spring and late fall. Then too, with the snow fight- ing equipment which me Liberal Government has acquired, these roads will be opened to Charlotte- town twelve months a year. Lad- iea s.nd gentlemen. you know whet. .this means, both to our farmers end to ourselves. We in Otieulottetn n must admit ti at our businesses are dependent on the farmers of the Province and the keeping of thus roads open to traffic in winter must tend t0 an increase in our business. There ie no mention whatever in the Conservative platform, that one fbot of pevanerit will be laid in 1348. Ladies and gentlemen, in this boot-war period, let us not regard these elections too lightly. Wc must see to it that Choibcttetlowa u. cehee the oselstan which is rlehtly hers. 1 have in mind three sources of revenue to our Province .i'n which Charlottetown should _certe.l.nly share. i 1f elected as you: repreeerlustlve, I l will endeavor to the best of my billty. to see that these cll-lml of our city ore recognized. May I weak of themeorie at a time y First, I believe that a portion ‘ .1.‘ the gasoline tax of this Province mould b0 paid to this city_ in pm. unrtion to the amount of gasoline ~.nsumptlosi. I believe if this was . me. then the municipal, tax a! 513.26 on automobiles could be abolished. This in itself would be (lulu a saving to the individual truck and ca.r owner. A portion of this tax which is ear marked for the maintaining of highways right. fully belongs to Charlottetown and the Royalty. Secondly. I feel that a percentage of the health tax should be paid to this city, to be spent at the dis- c: etion of the City Council to pro- vide treatment and hospitalization for the poor and needy of our city. and also to further increase the grants payable to our city hospi- tale. Certainly by far the larger portion of this tax ls paid by the residents of Charlottetown. ' Thlrdill’. I shall endeavor to tur- tner the claims of our City Council in respect to their receiving their just proportion of tax on Dominion Government properties in this city. 0f Prllm Importance I believe these are three matters of prime importance to the resi- dents of Charlottetown - matters in which every citizen should be interested, and which, I know, will receive recognition by the liberal Government after the 11th day of December. These items rep- resent large sums of money which definitely should be given our city. To my good friends in the Roy- all; ~ I know the trouble you have had with your water supply. Oar Government made a survey inst year and you know its find- ings. I feel that our Government could either negotiate with the Commissioners of Sewers do Water supply to have these areas given pipe lines from the mains running in the city, or better still, s Gov- ernment reservoir owned and opsr- ated_ which would supply water to you at a flat rate. 1 believe, too. that with the beautiful homes now in proximity to this city, the pav- lng of the streets and laying of sidewalks should be included in the paving program which will be inaugurated next summer. With the rural electrification program fastly being put into ef- fect. the streets in Spring Park, Gaymwn and St. Avards should be ‘lighted. I believe this should be one of the first things done. With these populated areas so close to Charlottetown it is absolutely essential that our Government give this matter their earliest attention. As your representative I will en- deavor to have this project start- ed ea soon as possible. Clty Wltorffont Lrsclles and gentlemen, I know our waterfront is in e state of disrepair. I know that wharves aro the responsibility 0f the Dominion Government. 1 know also that the recommendations of the Provincial Government to the Dominion Gov- ernment sre acted upon. I know that sites for new industries are necessary if they are w locate in Charlottetown. 1 know that, with the erection of a waterfront from the head of L.M. Poole's wharf to the Railway wharf, much land could be reclaimed. If elected, es a member of our Liberal Govern- ment on December llth. I will en- deavor to have these claims recog- nized. I know that. a new water- front has been sought before. I know our Board of Trade end Oity Council have pushed for this in the peat. I assure than. if elected, our Provincial Government will demand that these clsime be re- cognized. In this period of reconstruction whether or not we eum a per- iod of dapreselon such es follow- ed the last war la entirely in the hands of your governments, both Dominion end Provincial.
