VP Finance's Message I would like to begin’ ‘by. welcoming all a= Hopefully, this year will be fulfilling both from an academic standpoint and from an extra-curricular standpoint. Personally speaking, this year will be my last at UPEI, and it is my goal to spend my final making a positive con- tribution to student life — I hope you will consider doing the same. As the Vice-President Finance, my role in the Student Union is to ensure that the funds of the students are accounted for and that the resources of which we are entrusted with are used wisely. ° This process is.one of continuous improvement. We will always be look- ing for ways to maximize the benefits that we provide students through our many services, while minimizing the cost on the everyday student. There are always a number of issues that face an incoming executive. This holds exceptionally true this year. The grand opening of the new Student Centre this fall marks the culmination of a longstanding challenge to build a true home for the Student Union and for students. But this also marks the beginning of new challenges — How can the building be best used by stu- dents? What sorts of activities and events should be held? How can we best meet the needs of increasingly diverse student population? These questions do not have simple answers, and we need your help and input as we go forward. My door is always open. I also encourage each of you to get in contact with me — by email, phone, or in per- son — to discuss any issues or concerns that you may have. It is my belief that it is through discussion and debatethat we are able to build consensus and _ clarity, just as it is my belief that an open communication process is a bet- ter communication process.
