other children, who, in hushed whisp-

his sister Josephine."
George, who is twelve years old,
nas too sad to pay any heed to the
remarks. It was true he had shut and
killed his sister, who was nine years
old. He did it accidentally when
shooting at a barrel on which he
had painted a target. He did not
think he declared afterward, that
Josephine was going to run anywhere
near the missles from the rifle.
After the accident he ran away in
fright and spent the night in a lot,
weeping over what had happened.
Yesterday, knowing that every eye
in the neighborhood was on him, he
