“JV! ‘ ,‘X‘ i Complimenis of Radio CSUR .. § Bachman Turner Overdrive The success of Bachman Turner overdrive's first ‘two albums could have been a fluke of just beginners' luck - but it wasn't! BTO's third album "Not' Fragile" has hit the mar- ket even more solidly than those before. The rough, sappy style is as good as the album's name and the title cut. It's hard rock in a listenable form with very obvious bass continuance through- out. Turner takes care of most of the vocals with the distinguishable voice that has become the ETC identification. "Rock is My Life, and This is My Song" has the more conventional sound and is reminicent but not repetitious of "Blue Collar" of BTOI — excell— ent musical rifts and| lyrics. (BTO II). "I met a dreadful woman, she took my heart away, She said I had it com— ing to me But I wanted it that She looked at me with those big brown eyes And said,'You ain't seen nothin' yet.'" "Free Wheelin" takes a drastic change from the \rest of the album. It is a dedication to Duane Allman and it captures a distinct sound which brings to mind the Allman Brothers. Randy and Blair Bach— man do a tremendbus rend— ition on lead and second. BTO's seems to be taken with the style of other groups and from the easy Allman style, they blast into\"Sledgehammer" which could pass as earlier E “a a“ " .,‘ ! .‘-.-:~n:.,v.>~"_.r“. However, its soon forgotten for "Blue Moanin'" which must be the very best cut or the . album. It's sound makes it the first choice to a~ chart—shattering 45RPM. It's got what only BTO can give it}! "Second Hand" continues in the true BTO sound but THE CADRE, TUES., Styx, i7 , 1974 Page 11 lHllllllll’ seems rather downhill af— ter "Blue Moanin". The final cut "Given It All Away" ranks with "Sledge- hammer". There are some good instrumentals but the vocals kill the cut with high level screeching. All in all, the album is definately worth its output and should pro— duce a million seller within weeks.
