DOWNING STREET, 10th August, 1867. 813, I have the honour to acknowledge the receipt of your Dcspatch, No. 61, of the 17th June last, enclosing a Minute of your Council and other Documents, relative to certain sums claimed by the Con'imissariat Department at Halifax on account of the expenses incurred in connection with the Detachment of Trocps lately stationed in Prince Edward Island. I referred your representations on this subject, together with those of the Executive Council, for the consideration of the Secretary of State for War, and I have to acquaint you that in order to relieve your Govern- ment of so much of the claim which has been made upon it as would be equivalent to the expense which would have been chargeable to Army Funds had the tr00ps re- mained in Nova Scotia, the Controller of' the Army ex- penditure in that Province has been directed to prepare a new account, comprising the expense of transport, lodging- money, office rent, extra wages and contingencies, and the actual excess cost of the provisions, forage, fuel, &c., above the Halifax contract prices.
