The first album that I will be reviewing for the new year is Sammy Hagar’s . doned. new selt-titled album. Aft- ter Sammy Hagar left his solo-career behind him to join Van Halen his fans felt as if they had been aban- However Sammy Hagar was still under con- tract with Geffen Records’ and Van Halen is under contract of Warner Broth- ers. Everyone thought that this would just be a techni- cality for Hagar, something that he had to get out of the way before joining Van Halen. People, especially his fans, feared that this would be a terrible album not worth buying. Hagar took his time with this: al- bum and it has turned out to be a true Sammy Hagar album. The album was co- ‘produced by Edward Van -Halen, a close friend of Ha- gar’s and now fellow band- member. To me this is an ex- cellent album, if not Ha- gar’s best. If early sales are indicative of anything, this album is going to be a smash hit. The first single released’ Give To Live’ is a stirring ballad which proves that Hagar isn’t only good at writing hard, fast-beat songs. Another good ballad is*‘Hands And Knees which is sure to be crowd favorite if not a hit on the charts. One song on the album of which ] am sure will be a hit SAMMY HAGAR — is Boys’ Night Out? Believe me it is good! I also like the beat of“When The Ham- mer Fills” and “Back Into You.’ Those are my favorite songs irom the album but the remainder of the songs are als:: very good. They include: Returning Home, Standin’ At The Same Old Crossroads, Privacy, Eagles Fly, and What They Gonna Say Now. j The only problem with this album is that it is Ha- gar’s last solo project for God knows how long and the album is se good that Hagar’s fans are going to be even more disappointed and go into open revolt. No need to hide the women and children as I’m sure that. Hagar will be back some- day to release another solo album, even if the success ~ of 5150 continues into Van Halen’s next albums. I loved this album and I recommend it to anybody that loves rock n’ roll as it ' is well worth the price. In fact I loved the album so much that I am going to give it the first perfect score SAMMY HAGAR that I have ever given. Rating- Sammy Hagar 10/10 Something that I would like to clarify concerns a record review I did last year on Bruce Willis’ “The Re- turn Of Bruno.” I gave the record good reviews and everybody laughed at me. After listening to the record a few more times I tend to finally agree with them, IT DOES STINK. Now I can’t stand Bruce Willis or his show “Moon- lighting” and I tend to keep a styrofoam brick by my chair for whenever’a com- mercial or show in which he is star is shown. -If you have any com- ments with regards to this column, or albums which you would like to see re- viewed just leave a message at CIMN ph. 892-8980, or The Gem, which is lo- cated in the basement of the Utility Building.
