Darrel Murray. the girls of the Summei-side High school ..s.ve enjoyed playing bl!-'3' etiball at the airport court all win- ter. They have absorbed some ter- rific trouncings at the hands of the other teams of the Island League for ladies. but they WW9 made some improvement, never- theless. as was evidenced by the very close game between them and the girls of West Kent School of Charlottetown. Possibly it. would have been better if they had en- tered a league with West Kent and Prince Street Schools. teams which would have been a. little more in their class. Of course, it. is true that Stim- meisidc did not confine itself to the high school in getting the per- sonnel of their team, but when you consider the fact. that very few Summerside girls have any basket- ball experienoe, this going outside the school for talent might be ex- cused for it year or two. If the girls continue to play basketball every winter, It will not be long before they can recruit their entire team from the high school. . . .- Now the high school boys are also taking up the'game, a. little late in the season, but better late than never. They made 3 credit- able showing against the West Kent boys considering they have had only two weeks' practice, and only one or two of the members ever played basketball before Hockey seems to put. it crimp in the chances for boys to have has- ketball earlicr in the season. We think that both those sports could be carried on at. the same time. There are 1 number of boys who do not play hockey who would welcome I chance to play basket- ball. The Royals have won it eight yours, but they do not run consecutively. . . .. Plans are on foot to have a spe- cial section of bleachers set apart. for the boys and girls at the base- ball diamond in Summerside this summer. The kids find It difficult. to remain seated while a game is in progress. They like to run a- round and have a few games of their own. Quite natural for the kiddies to feel that way, but a bit disturbing to the adults who would like to watch ball games without a bevy of shouting urchins milling around them. we think the new move is an excellent one, and hope notihng will come up to prevent its being carried out. . . . A packed house got more than their money's worth at the Char- lottetown Forum Moiiday night. They saw a stirring battle, and the fact that the Miners were never ahead kept the 'tKltty-bfi.r-the- door" tact-ics at K iiiiniiiium. We never saw a team so consisttently oiitiiicked as the Islanders were throughout most of the game. but the lady with the horn gave them the final smile.
