L At Orwell Cove, on Tuesday. - Sep- D - _ -tomber 6th, to Captain and Mrs. John A i Nicholson, a daughter. iii SIR,--After arriving home from my trip to Klondyke, I thought it well to expressafew thoughts through your columns. After a rough journey of three mo ntha We reached Dawson on the ‘lst ol May, all in the best of health and high spir- its. We found Dawson a town of about thirty live thousand people. It is about thirty tive miles long and thickly dotted witl1;tenis,some of canvass and others of wood. 'l‘he streets are yet in their natural state, not even turn- piked. It would be vain !or me here to at- tempt a full description ot the route by way of White Pass, the route over which w e travelled to Tagish Lake, where we built our boats about the middle of April, From Tagish we hosted down the Yukoii to Dawson. crossing the White Horse Rapids where McLeod and L ewis, two Islanders immortalized their ame b stemmin those awiulra 'ds n s, y g pi single-handedly-previously unknown. T he prospects of this northern region re not at all so golden as the papers sedto paint. them, but there are some iscoveries are being made which are romisinfr. It is utter folly for any P man to dieam of going to Klondyke to make`_,_a fortune in a few months, yet the chances of locating are fairly good nd claims may pan out well. - Tue stories of picking nuggets and ook mining are all great bigighost stories. 1 The clima‘e all the way from Skag- way is beau iful, as it is also in Daw- 8 the mosquitoes are not nearly so fierce nor so numerous as we read of. While in Dawson I had the pleasure olvmeeting the following Ialanders;-I Peter Bernard, Tignish ;William Work- man, Lot 1; Arch’h. Beaton, O‘Leary; Thomas Milligan. Lot 11; J. B. Lewis. Con way; N. McFarlane, Summerside; P. Ferguson, Graham’s Road; William Higgins. George Higgins, Daniel Mc- Lei d, Kensington; Arch’d_ Wright, Br- deque; Gordon Dawson, Tryon; D. Mr- Leod. Bradalbane; McDonald Bros. North River; Palmer boys, Dopald Golndrup, Crapaud, (tormerly); Percy Reid. B. Dawson, Wm. Small, Fred Kennedy, Alex. McRae, Charlottetown; -Currie,Lot 48; John McLeod, S. N Echolson, Point Prim; Jonn March- banks, DeSa.ble; George England, E'- lerslie. All those friends were quite well when I left on the 28th July. ' On my homeward trip I came by ukon Riverto St. Michael’s, thence on,'except that it is very warm, but ehring Sea, Pacific to Seattle, Salt ake City, Chicago, Toronto,Monlreal, arriving home on the 16th Sept. All the friends wished me to see their fo Isla d b possible and hope this mention may sutiice. Should any of the folk wish to make further enquiry I shall be pleased o give any information concerning our friends in Klondyke. B. Tnowsnsns.
