Dear Editor of "Sunshine" ' Writing in regard , to ny' letter of Nov. 10, - 1981,.in "Speak out In Sports" on Balance or Dishonest. In, the universities ‘ . in the Atlantic region _ regarding basketball. Many people have said there is a lot of Facts and Truth to what you say. Why change the system. My reason is — .we are not ba'ck in the sixties or seventies when'money was flowing around to help give education to students. Students who excell in sports alway have received sone help from the university. Because universities can get a lot of publicity. It is 'nicetohaVeagood basketball team not at r . this price, by winning at all costs. 'lhere is no end to this kind of - thinking in Atlantic university Athletic Departments heads to ne as a tax payer. . It is very dishonest to the universities in the Atlantic region in. basketball particularly over the last 25 years in P.E.I. Whatvljam ‘ trying to express the shortest way take football today 5 universities ' play the game teddy; ' Because of the costs and because we needed imports "to win at all costs - other sports will go the same way. Our schools and high schools in the - Atlantic region have been inproving for years in basketball, why not try and help our younger students in the future in the Atlantic region to develop and to look forward to playing. Take hockey and soccer at UPEI. I congratulate the coaches because we have many Islanders playing on both teans. ,, 70%“ or mare, of the boys that play hockey and soccer in school and - highschools have some— thing to look forward to and the publicity that they will give UPEI. Basketball can still get the sane publicity and oonpetitio'n and will be just as keen with ‘ our own Atlantic Players and tuition on other benefits that is rightly 4 theirs will go to them. I would ask that the Student Body at UPEI further this cause to have the university set up a conmittee on this . subject of basketball. 'Andwhy I am calling' the University dishonest, and why I am saying . you will be paying more for yoUr tuition, ' beCause Of Some peoples '- ambition at your expense. Win atallacosts. , 'I‘harking you for your tine, Maynard Macmillan
