And yet half the men who drive cars seem afraid to use it. Air lifts the load off the road. The heavier the load the more air it takes. That’s why tire makers have worked out the correct inflation pressure for every size of tire for differerlt loads. You wouldn’t think of running on a flat, yet how often do you let the pressure run so low that every severe bump pinches the tire between the road and the rim. An under- inflated tire is subjected to continuous and excessive flexing of the tire Walls. Arid then you wonder why you don’t get greater tire mileage. Know the correct pressure for your tires; and stick to it. Don’t guess it-gauge it. Two or three pounds under pres- sure cuts miles off the life of a tire. Keep in mind you’re riding on air, and if there isrl't suffi- cient air, you’re riding straight into trouble. Pay a weekly visit to a tire service station and have the in- flation checked and the tires examined for minor injuries. 1t’s the only way to get the maximum mileage from tires.
