WELCOME T0 RETURNED HERO An`event of more than ordinary in- terest took place at the residence of Angus McPhee, New Haven on Sai.- urday evening August 10th when their spacious dwelling was packed to the utrriost capacity to welcime back the returned hero, Willie Gass. He served four months in the trench- es and was wounded in the battle of Paschendaele. He was amongst the tirst to cross for France with' the 105th. The meeting was' brought to order fby Mr. Anigus McPhee in a few well chosen words of welcome to the returned hero. Miss Marjory Dar- rach then read the address of wel- come and Misa Katie McPhee present- ed him with a gold _watch and fob. Although Mr. Gans 'was taken by sur- prise thanked the donors very feeling- ly for their kind gift. He then gave a brief talk on the war. The following gentlemen were then called upon to speak. Mr'. Pope New- man, James Tierney, John Devereaux. M. -McKinnon and chairman, who gave short addresses. Music and sing- ing was furnished by the young ladies after which the company sat down to a dainty repast of ice cream, cake, cof- fee and sandwiches. Great credit is due to those who donation, also the two ladies who made the appeal for who could refuse such fair solicitors", and would re- fuse to aid such a worthy object.
