C. BRECKEN, Asst. P, O. Inspector, Offoe en ge Office, Charlottetown, > Se April, 1803—Si dy & wky Don't Stuff a Cold. If yon do you will, nine times in ten, have a fever to starve. A cold ia a shock received by the myriad nerves that bristle uear the surface of a human body. This shock is transmitted to the nerve centres, and then back tothe mucous membranes, forcing a. great amount of blood to those membranes, creiting 2 more or less severe irritatiOn, sad consequent rize in the tem perature, followed by chilly. Excess of food in thie stemach still more increases the temperature ; and, worst of 4!), helps clog the secretions or natural outiets of the body. Itis high time we broke away from an eld notion which, like some others, has done more harm than good. For example, in years past how many poor fever sufferers, burning with an interual fire and thirst, were hutried to an untixely grave because not allowed cooling drinks or a bit of ice by the old time treatment for fevers, as foolish as the adage for fools, At last one cunning delirious patient got to a pump oj cad water and drauk his fill; de termined not to leave until the well ran dry, he slacked the fever, re: vovered, and doctors learned a lesson Experimenting with a severe cold is « dangerous custom, as most persons try one remedy only until some friend suggests an- other ‘sure cure,” as Mark Twain so humor- ously describes. When slight hoarseness or tightening of the nasal membranes warns one of a skin exposuve or chill from wet, act promptly; a delay is dangerous. With chil- dren it may mean croup and strangulation; with adults, catarrh, bronchitis, perhaps pneumonia. If neglected, nothing can pre- vent the sneezing, red nose and woe begone look of a person with a cold. Scores of moth ers would as soon go to bed without matches in the jhouse as without that old-fashioned remedy, Johnson's Anodyne Liniment, near at hand for croupy children. Used with a mild laxative, as described in a pamphlet which l. 8. Johnson & Co., Boston, Mass., will send free to anyone. Johnson’s Liniment will cure a cold for adults quicker than any known remedy. A mild, nutritious diet, a —_ physic to open the secretions, and a ottle of that old Anodyne from your drug- gist, will conquer any cold. Johnsor’s Ano- dyne Linimentwas originaied by an cold fam- ly physician m ore than seventy years ago. m8 dé6i wli a **] remember that once I walked twenty miles to whip a fellow.” **And walked back, too, I suppos ?” **No, they carried me.” ——————— The Yott Case. Kriyaston, May 22.—The big ferry steamer Pierrepont has carried many a visitor to Wolfe Island recently to interview Mr, L. Yott, a farmer of that Island whose wonderful cure by Dodd’s kidney pills was recently published in these columns. The publication of so many marvellous cures had already excited much interest in this community, aud now that we have proof of what has been said of this remedy at our very doors it is taked of on all sides. Mr. Yott’s case was one that had excited the pity and anxiety of everyone for many years, and now that he is well and strong the peeple are uot only much gratified with the result, but interested in the incontestabie proof that Dodd's kidney pills certainly strike right at the seat of the diseases fcr which they are recommended, and are certain in their re- sults. — ee “Have you seen my blackf aced ante- lope ?’ enquired the keeper of a menagerie. *‘No,” said the visitor, ‘‘who did your black-faced aunt elope with ?” 6a. Don't Wait for the Sick Room. The experience of physicians and the pub- lic proves that taking Scott’s Emulsion pro- ducee an immediate increase in flesh; it is, therefore, of the highest value in wasting dis- eases and consumption, Passer-by—Policeman, there’s a fight round the corner. Policeman—Thank ye, sir, I'd do as much for yousome day, And he walked in the opposite direction. Mrs. J. E. Sxow, Matron Infants’ Home Halifax, says: ‘‘Puttne:’s Emulsion has proved valuable in ali cases of pulmonary complaints, for building up the system of our little ones, ‘They often ask for it.” “The air wos rent,” read Mr. Janson. “I have been looking for something of the kind tohappen. I thought'some one would te rentin’ the air yet, same as the land.” Confirmed. The favorable impression produced on the first appearance of the agreeable liquid fruit remedy Syrup of Figs a few years ago thas been more than confirmed by the plea- sant experience of ali who have used it, and the success of the proprietors and man facturers, the California Fig Syrup Comuany. “And do you really feel so very bad, | Johnnie ?’ “Yes, ma. I ain’t quite sick enough to need any med cine, but I’m aa little bit too sick to go to school.” USE SKODA’S DISCOVERY, the great blood and nerve remedy. Mont.
