matter of temperament and charac-
ter, and try to console the woman
whose crown of glory is so ine that

systematically to keep it at its best

splendor temporarily, but a physio-

pristine excellence. Time after time
I have noted fresh vitality and new

or, and a renewal of the rich, natur-
al tints of the hair, result from a
course of treatment for impaired
health directed by the family phy-
sician. For instance, a long and
persistence absorption of iron taken
internally as a tonic under a doc-
tor’s directions will brighten and
color the hair and often prevent ear-
ly grayness, since the pith of the
hair owes its pigment or tint to the
iron in the system. Such a prescrip-
tion is composed of two and a half
grains of iron sulphate and one and
a half grains of potassium carbooatc
made into pills, one to be taken af-
_ ter each meal three times a. day, in
creasing the dose to three after the
principal meals of each day.
An excellent shampoo for the hair
is made in these proportions. Take
the yolk of one egg, a pint of warm
rain-water, and one ounce of spirits
of rosemary. Beat up the mixture
1 thoroughly and use it while it is
warm, rubbing it well into the
scalp. Rainwater is -so soft and
satin-like that that is whv it is re-
commended, for the hair abhors _any
thing that impoverishes its vitality,
so it should be sought for, especially

in those parts of the country wher
the water is naturally hard, but if
fit cannot be obtained, borax should
he added to the 'ordinary water to
soften it, -or boiled water should ‘be
used. Another excellent shampoo is
Juice of one lemon, the yolk of o
tilled or -_boiled water. Place the soap
and the water in a. clean saucepan
