Offerings in all grains were light but demand was moderately heavy due to adverse crop reports from southwestern areas in the winter wheat belt.

Jerome over the week-end on charges that he stole $120,003 from the bank, Grenville is about 50 miles from Montreal. above Ll- chute,

Mr. Monty. who is alleged to have committed the thefts since he joined the bank as maimger in 1829. appeared before Judge Her- rr.ann Barrette. who fixed bail zit s;l.0Co -pending further court action April 14.

The complaint, lodged by _tiie batik and served on Monty by a court bailiff charged the suspended manager with having stolen the money from the Grenville branch and from “legal possessions" in “safekOeplng." .

investigation was begun a month ago by the Quebec supervisors de- partment of the Bank of Nova Scotla in Montreal. and the in- .spectors' office of the bank‘: head- quarters in Toronto. It followed discovery of alleged discrepancies by an inspector last month. when Mr. Monty was reported to have left for a vacation — the first he has had in several years.

Mr. Monty, who was suspended after an examination of the books was said to have been questioned at length by bank investigators be- fore the theft. charge was laid. He joined the bank in 1012, serving at other branches before going to Grenville in 1920.

Although Grenville is a small farming community on the Quebec side of the Ottawa River. several large pulp mills are located in the area and upwards of 3100.000 passes through the bank in a week.
