Extension of Federal Wildlife Management Urged liy Conference

0'I'I‘AWA (CP)— The l8th fed- cral-provincial wildlife conference has urged extension of federal wildlife management on a scale comparable with programs opera- ting in the fields of forests and fisheries management.

E. S. Huestis, fish and game commissioner and director of for- cstry for Alberta. urged the con- cluding session of the conference to recommend amendments to pre- sent federal legislation to provide the provinces and Ottawa with is broader basis for co-operative wildlife management. There was general support for this proposal.

J. S. Jenkins, Prince Edward Island, said a broader field exists for the Canadian wildlife service than in the far north, national parks and the migratory birds re- gulations. to which it is confined at present.

Charles Lswrence, assistant chief, branch of game management, 11.8. fish and wildlife service, said the Canada goose has multiplied to the point where its numbers have be- come a problem ,

Father Donahoe, a native of Roseneath, P.E.I., was elevated to the holy priesthood on June 13, 1904. by one of the most outstand- ing members of the American hierarchy, Archbishop John Ireland of at. Paul, Minnesota.

In addition to having given dis- tinguished service in the archdio- cese of his adoption as archdioce- san director of Catholic Chsities and as pastor of St. 3ridget‘s Parish, Minneapolis, Minn., Father Donalioe is the author of two no- table books. Prince Edward Island Priests and The Scope of Charity.

In welcoming him back to his native Province, Father Donahoe‘s many friends will offer him warm- est felicitations on this occasion, and wish him many more years of apostolic work in his sacred call- ing.

Former Glen William Lady Dies At Halifax

..'Word has been received of the passing of Mrs. Malcolm A. Mac- Donald, Connaught Avenue, Hall- fax, who passed away June 17. at the age of '10 years.

The deceased was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Roderick Maclieod of Glen William. She leaves to mourn besides her hus- band, n son Bruce of Halifax, a son Allister of Ottawa and s daugh- ter Catherine, Mrs. Robert Jenkins of Halifax.

The remains are arriving from Halifax tonight and will be trans- ferred to the home of Angus Math- eson. Glen William. The funeral service will be held from the Mur- rny River United Church. Monday, June 2i, at 2 pm. Interment will be in Caledonia cemetery. ,

..'At the postponed regular meet- ing of the Montague Town Council held yesterday evening, the mat- ter of Daylight Saving Time re- ceived considrrsble discussion. Present were Mayor Yeo. Coun- cillors McGowan, Hessian and Fraser.

Following the lengthy discussion, it was decided that in view of the fact that the Town Council had already passed I motion to es- tablish Daylight Time on April 25 to Sept. 25, it would let the mat- ter rest there, until it was other- wise advised. and those who wish- ed to go on Daylight Time might do so. and those who wished to remain on Standard Time might have the lame privilege.

Some time ago a petition was circulated and signed by some 60 business men to have the Govern- ment pllce the whole Province on "fast." time. Yesterday Mayor Yeo read a list containing the names of business men of the town. some of whom were remaining on stan- dard tlme despite the motion of the Town Council. two others were going on daylight time despite the Uniformity Time Act. and others were neutral. those to whom it did not matter.

Town of Montague go on Daylight Time effective midnight Sunday night. There was no seconder, and the motion was withdrawn.

The general feeling prevailing was that the ”lost" time should be Province-wide in accordance with the Uniformity Time Act. it won then decided that the decision would be left to each business c‘s- tsblishment to resolve the question on its own.

Discussion also centred on mak- ing the Wood Island hill street a one-way street on Saturday night. and it was decided that the ques- tion would be given further con- siderstion.

The Mayor reported that several quotations were received for the proposed sidewalk construction. and that further consideration would be necessary.

There followed a brief discus- sion on is proposed hydrant pipe line along the main street of Mon- tague with a main pumping sta- tion at the wharf. Authorative sources indicated a 3-inch pipe one half mile long on each side of the bridge would carry sufficient pres- sure for the hose lines. The esti- mated costs for installation of the line would be over 39,000. How- ever, it was decided to get more information before any definite de- clsion was made.
