Growers and shippers are. therefore. cautioned to ship nothing but stock which has been stored free from danger of frost injury. AMHERST, N. 3.. Nov. 27.—Min- lllc Lorctte, l5, was the victim of the first thin ice tragedy of the season when she broke through the frozen surface of Christies Pond, yesterday noon and was drowned. The girl had decided to take a short cut across the half-frozen pond and the ice collapsed under her when she was half way across. Several boys play- ing nearby made a futile attempt to rescue her.
