VANCOUVER (CP)—A_ long, hot summer of labor strife has left the avera British Colum- bian uncertain}of his thinking, his drinking or his dying

The heat seemed to keep the trade union movement simmer- ing at the same time as it gave tans to many whe didn't really want them—placard carriers on picket lines and strike - idled workers killing time on beaches

amounted to federal government orders

But months hefore the grain handlers left the job, the public watched as unions flexed their muscles.

In April, Vancouver's two major cemeteries were struck by their grave diggers and out- side workers, whe picketed the burial grounds every day but Sunday

Burial services went on as usual, but the bodies» were stored in mortuaries until the members of the: Construction and ‘Genera! Laborers Union CLC) returned to work after several weeks.
