Cadre Blessed by Pope John Paul II

It is with great pleasure that I announce -that The Cadre, or more precisely a cover of the holiday issue of The Cadre, has been blessed by His Holiness Pope John Paul II.

On, January. .2,- 2002, 1; Thomas Lloyd, attended Pilgrims Mass in The Vatican City when it was announced that the Pope was going to bless any articles that people in atten- dance wanted blessed. This came as a shock to me, so I hastily pulled out a wad of cash, and an issue of The Cadre, which I had brought because of a phone number written on it. People throughout the Church held up. beads and other religious articles, yet personally I felt that cash, a newspa- per, and all my clothes was more fit- ting. Following the announcement, the Pope flailed his arms around in a quirky manner, yammered incoher- ently, and then everything was blessed. Yet I was dismayed when I realized that the Pope had blessed

around $150 of my money.

_ Was it ethical to spend a 100,000 Lira note if it was blessed by the Pope? I was conflicted, yet after visiting a disco, I decided only to keep the bills worth a dollar. So I returned to Canada with eight bills blessed by the Pope, and the blessed Cadre (which is now on display), and a blessed suit, complete with blessed boxers.

Yet what is the extent of this blessing? For sure it extends to the physical piece of paper, which was within three feet of the Pope. But does the blessing reach to our ragtag group of people. I’m going out on a limb here, but I have to say yes. So with only a small bit of hesitation, I say now that the student newspaper

has been blessed by Pope John Paul

II. And why stop there? I claim now that The Cadre has been ordained by

~God to seek out all which is to be

sought.
