Lonpow, April 1. The Earl of Granville died yesterday. His Leriship hid been ill and suffering

retary of State for Foreign Affairs. In 1846 he succeeded to his title. He held the seals of the Foreign Uffice in the Russel Cabinet, 1851 52, and was afterwards Lord Presi- dent of the Council. In 1868 he became Secretary of State for the Colunies and in 1870, Secretary for Foreign Affairs. He resigned with the other members of the G.adstone Cabinet in 1874 and became Leader of the Opposition.in the House of Lords. Upon the fall of Lord Beacons- field’s Government in 1880, and Mr. Glad- stone’s accession to «ffive, Lord Granville resumed the office of Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, retaining the position until Lord Salisbury came into power in 1885. lu the last Gladstone Administration he held office as Secretary of State for the Colonies. Lord Granville was one of Mr Gladstone’s most powerful supporters since the split in the Liberal party on the Irish question. His L -rdship was Chancellor of the Universi: y of Londun.}
