On the 12th March. at Southampton, Lieut. General Shrapnel, the oldest oilir-cr in the Roval Artillery. 11c invented the case shot, a destructive engine-of war, iisred by the Royal Artillery, and known by the name of Shrapnofishclls. The discovery was considered of such importance, that, on its adoption by the ser- iice, he. received a pension nf£1,200 per annum, in addition to the pay oftlic respective ranks in the army he subsequent y hIcld.

In order to put the COLONIAL Fumes in more immediate con- nection with the Central Board, and to hold a more frequent in- tcrcnurse with Agriculturists and Agricultural Societies. the sub- scriber has determined to publish the above paper—(halfits pre- sentsize)—-everyfortnight, instead ofmontlily as heretofore. He has been urged to this course by numerous influential friends, and he believes it will meet with general satisfaction from its patrons. . '

The circulation ofthe'work is rapidly increasing, and every possible exertion will be used by the publisher so to improve it from time to time as will make it more worthy ofsupport. The opinions of practical farmers and the press. however, at the pre- sent time, are so flattering, that the Publisher cannot shut his eyes to the fact, thattbe superiority ofa periodical, almost exclu- sively devoted to the interests of the Agriculturist, over all others, will at no distant day,be more generally felt and acknowledged.

The publisher is not sufficiently egotistical to assort. that he will make the Colonial Farmer the bust Agricultural Paper in British North America—but he. will endeavour. so far as practical skill, science and industry are concerned—to make it second to none. “'ell written original Essays will be procured, and appropriate selections made from the latest and bestagricultural works now published in England and the United States, and attention will be paid to the publication of new inventions, aml improvements in Agricultural Implements. In addition, each number will con- tain a statementofinarket prices ofproduce.
