Froshweek 1990

This year’s orientation week was a big success. The ’90 class of frosh are an outstanding group of people, packed with enthusiasm and high spirits. Everyone had fun throughout the crazy skits, acitivities, dancing io the tunes of High-N_R_G and our Main Event Much Music dance party. Thanks to vou frosh for making this week successful. We sincerely hope "ya’ll" had a blast. (Have you tried our "Special Mocktail?)

Many, many people contributed to frosh week in many, many ways. Thanks to all of you, committee and others, for your help with making the week fun for everyone! (You know who you are) But the fun’s not over yet!

Frosh Banquet is coming! So all you guys who participated can have some great eats and get together once again. Pick up your tickets at the Barn, Sept. 18-24. First come, first serve, priority given to those who went to froshweek and already paid registration fee.

Attention Seniors!

Although the school year has just begun, grad tings will be ordered on September 26 and 27 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Bookstore. The rings are from A&A Jewellers in Toronto and a $20. down payment is required. Don’t miss out!!!

Also we are looking for a new logo for the Senior Class. Each graduating class has its own logo to be used on Senior Week memorabilia. We are holding a contest to come up with a logo for the Senior Class Interested individuals can drop off thier designs at the S.U. Office located in the Barn. Office hours are Mon-Fri 8:00 am - 4:00 pm. Contest closes Oct. $, 1990 at 12:00 noon. The winnere will receive a free Senior Week package and will have their design displayed on hundreds of T-Shirts, cups, pins, etc.

Also note that the car wash scheduled for Saturday Sept. 22, 1990 is cancelled.

- - DEBATING SOCIETY - -

One of the objectives of a university education is to develop in students the ability to organize information, to draw conclusions from that organized information, and to communicate the conclusions effectively.

Debating is an excellent means of acquiring such skills and of having fun at the same time. You need not have had previous debating experience; you need not be planning a career in law or politics! You need only have an interest in improving your skills in collecting, organizing and presenting information in a convincing manner. Debating is a valuable component of any thinking person's education.

The UPE! Debating Society is meant to bring together students with the above-mentioned interests. Membership in the Society does not require that you be a public debater, but it does offer you opportunities to speak in public and to debate at the intramural and collegiate levels and to compete annually for the Saint Dunstan's Class of ‘54 Memorial Trophy, which commemorates one of the National Championship debating teams produced by SDU.

By joining the UPEI Debating Society, you can have one of the most enjoyable and rewarding experiences of your university days. You will have a chance to make new friends both here at UPE! and at other Canadian universities. As well, debating experience can make you better qualified for certain careers.
