DELAY OF MAIL.

Dear Sir,—-It seems strange that when we have twomails daily from Charlottetown to Montague our outgoing mail which is suppos- ed to leave here at 12.45 p. m., and connect with train at Cardigan, laid over night in the office on the 5th ultimo, and did not go till Thursday morning, Dec 6th.

The mai! courier between Monta- gue and Cardigan would, no doubt, say thatit was impossible to get to Cardigan, as the roads were unfit for transit. But we note that his neighbor started from here on the same day at one o'clock, pm, with an express load of trunks and ar- rived in (Cardigan in time to catch the ingoing train to Char- lottetown. It may have been that his hired man went on strike,and as the contractor ls not in the habit of driving the mail coach himself there would be none Jeft to take charge but his son, and] am informed that that gentleman is on the retired list, having received from the hands of the assistant P. O. Inspector his ticket of leave.

if the latter case is his reason for not even attempting to get to Car- digan with the mails, he has, no doubt, the sympathy of the people of Montague. If not,and provided he has not for some good reaSon secur- ed a’permit from the Government to stay at home every day that it should snow or rain, as the case may be, he isno doubt playivg a little game of imposition on the business men of Montague as well as the public in general.
