LETTER FROM CAMPUS 205 Dalton Hall UPEI Time Immemorial

Dear Billy:

I am sure that you are eager to hear from me after a long hot summer. Boy, I am glad to be back on this peaceful Island where everybody is straight, plain, forth— right, and clean. No hippies, no “mod” talk like “outa—sight, psych- ed-up, Muff it” and all that. The people here speak flawless English and I have no difficulty in under- standing anybody. I think that is the purpose of any language. Also no speed freaks, acid heads nor grass hoppers with their cranking operations around here. No pol- lution except in the Charlottetown Harbour. Boy, if there is a para- dise on earth it is on PEI.

Well Billy boy the girls on Cam- pus are becoming better and better all the time; they are becoming “leggier” and “leggier” every year. Seeing these legs makes me sigh aloud about the popular specula— tion on the demise of the mini- skirt. I shudder to think about what I will be seeing (or not see- ing) next fall. I am keeping my fingers crossed though and hope for the best for rumor has it that the women intend to fight back in favour of the mini. .

While on the question of campu development and improvement I must tell you that our campus is ex- panding by leaps and bounds. One of the latest additions is something known as an “annex” situated be- hind the n'nk. Please .Billy I don’t want you to ask me in your next letter “annex to what”? for I will have to seek the President’s aid for an answer, and he might find him- self in difficulty too; and you know that this would only help to cut down effeciency around here. As I could make it out it is an “un- annexed annex”.

A second addition is a conversion yes, the conversion of one of two old barns to a “Psych Lab.” On this I say nothing on paper except the passing comment that it really suits - psychologists.

es and amazes me. Billy, our beloved Student Union has called a barn a Student Center. Boy you ever heard anything like that before?While in bed last night it dawned upon me that if these people had the courage to call a barn a Student Center then there is no earthly reason why they would be afraid to call the Students

who frequent it, names like cows, ‘

mules, asses and the like, and french fries and so on would be referred to as hay, fodder, etc., etc., So Bill I have decided to keep away from

that place as much as is humanly possible for fear of being called

names that would certainly lead to emotional distress. As my old, dead and gone grandma used to say:“If

you can’t stand the heat, stay away from the kitchen.”

Boy a special word on the fresh- ettes. It is the general consesus that this year’s crop is the best for some time. Everybody now . agrees that last year was a lean year. Boy, as with any crop these must be some tares, but the a- mount this year is so overwhelmed by those with the beautiful Coca- cola curves and other kinds of feminine elegance that they seem non-existent. All the guys say that this years crop came as a ray of sun— shine in the darkest hour of despera ate men. The impact is so “World”‘ shaking that there are evident rum- blings of grave concern, within the ranks of the campus female comm- unity. One upper—classwoman had to get the weight off her chest.She openly and emmotionally said:“Boy the competition is really stiff this year” Please Billy don’t show this

Have you ever wondered how

those powerful and prestigeous

committee chairmen come by their jobs? Well, the mystery is about to be solved.

Students interested in the chair- ship of any Student Union com- mittee are required to give their name to the Internal Vice-Pres- ident, Connie Cullen. (A thought I wish someone would change the name of that position. It sounds like she’s in charge of kidneys and livers) The applications for each position are then passed to a five member selection committee. The five members ? Jim Ross and‘ Brian Zalewski, both Student Council members; Christine Rolason, a Senior education student; and a student appointed by the commit- tee being considered (for example if the chairmanship of the Winter Carnival Committee is being dis- cussed, the Winter Carnival Com— mittee appoints one of its members to the screening committee). (You may have noticed that the above names add up to only four! The fifth member was student council.

The screening committee consid- ers all applications for each posi- tion and if necessary interviews each of the applicants. They must recommend one name to the Stu- dent Council. The Council has the final decision in all appointments.

In the past, some committee chairmen were paid (given_an hon- orarium) and others were not. This year, the S.U. budget sets aside $500 for honoraria, with no spe- cific mention of any committees. Presumably, council will decide which Chairmen are to receive honoraria.

During the past week, students were asked to apply for the fol- lowing chainnanships: Amateur Athletic Association; Social Com- mittee; Yearbook; Winter Carnival Committee; Film Society and Cam- pus Police.
