We cannot give Just services to our children. How cur we overcome this deplorable sit- uation? This surely csn be met by a High School, which would relieve the alter-dance pressure in the present City schools. We should have a High school because we force children to come to school up to the High School age, and then we encourage the same chil- dren to go beyond the elementary studies into the secondary.

"But what have we to offer them lrf the latter education? Two out- standing reasons. then. why we need a High School: first. to re- lieve the congestion existing in the present schools; a.r.:l second, to provide a better type of training fm- the boys and girls. too many of whom are not. at all suited for the narrow type of training that our present system in the City offers. Many leave school even beforg they should. This condition can be re- moved by having opportunity classes in the Clty._ such as have been offered by tho city of Mira- tbn for some yun past. our cltv has some '10 or 00 who would greatly profit from such claucl.

Allen. of Sum- merside. as guest of thc meeting. was called upon for a few remarks. iI-lumozously, he referred to com- petition between his home town and this City. Briefly. he contmend- ed the Summer-side tax system. and mentioned __for special commenda- tlon the way the Summcrsidq peo- ple have carried on their taxation lsystem, allowing practically no ar- ‘rears to accumulate, and making a really worthwhile project of its ‘electric light plant. "Siummerside," stated the speaker, "has a surplus ‘o1 $25,000 from its electric light plant ale-re. Closing his remarks, Mr. Allen suggbsted that the City should have a permanent assessor, who would certaLrJy pay for his salary many times over through his worthy and worthwhile services. Such an asses- sor is available. why not get him?
