Ccnsequently a scheme has been started by the Mersey Docks Harbor Board to spend four millions sterling on the construction of new docks of the largest class for steamships, and the partial removal of the Pluckington sandbank, which is two miles in length.

Vatvaste Carco.—The schooner Santa Marie cleared on Saturday for Bermuda with a cargo consisting of 70 tons free stone from the Wallace quarries, 674 sacks white oats, 350 bbis. garnet potatoes, 200 bbls. white potatoes, 214 sucks McIntyre potatoes, 220 bundles pressed hay, 101 bundles preesed straw, 101 bush. turnips, 2 bbis oysters, 40 drums cedfich, i0 tubs factorysbutter, 3 carriages, | truack-waggon 10 sets harness, 27 horses, 40 sheep, 15’ live pigs, 400 geese, turkevs, fowls and ducks, 50 boat spars, 25 ladders. The horses were a fine iot—all good stylish drivers and cart horses;—young, ranging from 4to7 yearsold. These horses were examined by good judges when they were being put on board the echooner, and pronounced as fine a lot, as base been shipped from Prince Eoward Island for some time on one schooner. The shippers are H. C. Outerbidge, A. Horne & Co. and Dr. Bagnall.

The

The deepest cutting on the new track will be about 17 feet. It is intended to make thecutting as wide as possible with a view to reducing the work of snow-fight- ing to aminimum. The embankment in one place—crossing a creek—will be about fifty feet. Considerable clay tor the embankment is being obtained from a | narrow cutting near the station, where ; snow has accumulated toa considerable lextent in past years, and the cutting isthus being materially widened. Clay is also be.ng taken from another cutting on the Charlottetown side of the station where the road curves coasiderably, and here it isalso intended to make the line as straight as possible.

It is declared by the railway people that the change now being made will result in a saving of about $1000 each year. This reduction wil! be iu the way of lessening the expenditures for snow fencing and snow fighting, ties, rails, Jabor, wear and tear, etc. It isex pected that by this time next year the new line will be in operation. The work, so far as it has progressed, has apparently been performed in a most capable manner.
