Zera Semon opened a four nights engage- ment at the Opera House last night, toa fair sudievce. The programme consisted of slight of hand, veutriloquism, the troup of marionettes and thegiving away of the presents, besides the specialties by the boy Lawrence. Prof. Semon is known of old as \a ventriloquist the new feature of last evening being the yellow kid. The

actions of the troops of marionettes were indeal wonderful, their dancing, singing going up in the ballon and also the falling down scene keeping the audience in con- tinuous laughter. Lawrence has a won~ derful voice for cne ef his*years, and he had to respond three timesto well deserv~ edencores. Butthe main feature of the evening, especiallyto the holders of num- bers, was the distribution of presents. Miss Brown, in the employ of John Coombs & Co, held the lucky number, which drew the gold watch,and Mr. V. Jost’s number won the china tea set.

THE HALIFAX EXHIBITION.

In the course of its report of the Halifax exhibition, the Herald says : Sheep occupy almost the entire space allotted to them. Few pens areempty and those. that are filled contain a class of stock which com- pares very favorably with anythiog ever seen bere.’ Unfortunately Nova Scotia has had to take aback seat and give way to Prince Edward Island when it comes to a question of prizes. Pesterday aftercoon the judges commenced their work and Nova Scotia did not show up very well inthe matter of awards. Many of the provincial farmers had animals on exiibi- tion, but as arulethey were not up to the came standard a8 those sent over from

The class for Lincolns was very fine. G Bovver P. E.1., was big winner in this class. Fred Bovyer, also from the island, was a good second. Both men deserve credit for their exhibit in the class. The animals were very fine and are worthy of inspection.

Shupshbires are there in force. _As yet the judges have not passed on this class and there is no favorite. Among those who are after the awards are Senator Ferguson, Boswell Bros., P. E. I., Logan and Harrie, Picton, and Andrew McPherson, Hopewell. pnb:
