A SvccessruL S£Ason.—The steamer M. A. Starr has made her last trip to this port for the season ; indeed, the probabilities are that we have seen the last of her, as the Company intend putting on a new steamer next year. During the season the Sterr has made some | jwenty-eigut trips to Charlottetown, every time having a full freight inwards and out- wards. Her agent her-—Mr. W. W. Clarke— has been very attentive to business, the treight has been carefully handled, and there has, so far as we can learn, been no trouble about | shipments. We congratulate all concerned on their gucceas, and expect to see Captain Ferguson in coramand of the new steamer next year.

Turex Mex Kittep.—While an engine was taking water at a tank in the Grand Trunk Railway Yard, at Merriton, Ont., on Monday, a coal train ran into it. Michael Sherry, fire- | man, Jas. Williams, driver, and Jas. Allan, brakeman, all belonging to the coal train, were instantly killed. None of the men on the other train were killed. It is believed that the coal train got beyond the control of the engineer while descending the steep grade of the Welland division which leads into the vard. A few articles of clothing have been taken from the wreck, which it is thought in- Aicates that a tramp who had been stealing 4 | tide had also perished.

Bridget Hogan's Case.

In the Court of Special Sessions to-day, Bridget Hogan, who attempted to murder Mrs. -Lighitstone’s three months old babe, pleaded guilty to having attempted the murder while under the influence of drink. She was remanded for one week tu see whether the child will recover or not. In the former event she will be sentenced for

| an attempt to murder; in the latter she will

be tried for murder at the next term of the (Jueen’s bench.

Gulf Navigation.

The Quebec Board ef Trade have for warded resolutions asking the Federal Gov- ernment to take steps to ascertain if the navigation of the Gulf is practicable as early as the Ist of March ; also to have a permanent light placed at Traverse, and telegraphic communication extended to the Straits of Belle Isle.
