La grippe in its most malignaat form has prostrated many persons in this and surrounding localities. None of these cases have, however, resulied serioutly.

We are pleased to announce the recovery of Miss Riaache Craig from a severe attack of pneumonia, and of Mr. Jas &. Dovle, Bradalbane, from a dangerous iliness oc casioned by blood poison.

Miss Annie McGuigan, Kinkora, who recently underweat @ most diilicull opera- tion in the Charlottetown Hopital, return- d home, completely cured, a few days ago.

Colorado Springs Exchange Experi- ences a Most Exciting Day.

More than two and one quarter million shares changed hauds. The brokere in the inner circle jostled each other and shrieked at the tops of their voices for seven 8o!id hours, and the large est crowd of spectators oo record pushed and erowded and made room for brokers and messenger boys in the space outside the railing.

Isabella was the great seneation of theday, but there were lesser ones, satellites as it were, around the cause of ali the commotion and excitement. The gallery was crowded, too, with spectators, most ot them women, w men who did not hold their hand- to their ears and appear amused at the babel at yells that came from below, but in their eyes shore the coneciousyess that their savings, large or small, hung in the bel auce, and there was the chance of a great foriun? in those hopefully invested dol- lars if onlythe market kept going the right way. Fully 600 people were in the exchange rocin throughout the long call, but they were not the same 609 all the time. People kept going and coming, surging back and forth, dropping in to see how the stocks were se'ling in moments suatched from their wor«.

Isabellaclimbed nearer the rky than ever before $1.80 being the highest point reach ed. The lowest point was $1.53. The stock opened at $1 50 and closed at $! 63. The ditference in the value of the ehares as indicated by the variations in the open quotation Saturdoy morning and the clos- iog quotations today is $1,850,000. At this rate the buying public is placing a a high value on the ore that was evcoun- tered in the ninth level of the Lee Friday afternoon, but there are many who say that the stock will goeven hig! er, and that there is no doubtin the world that it will touch $3 befcre the sensation abates.

It took only afew minutes to come to Isabella on the boardthis morning and as soon as it was reached, there ensued the wildest spectacle that was ever witnessed on thejocel exchange. For about half an hour it seemed that bedlam had liter. a'ly turnee Joose inthe pit.and nobody eeeme to be knowing whathe was doing under the iufluence of the calculations that if only enough of the shares could be bought and sold there would be gold io plenty and no more toil and worry.

Brokers regretted yesterdsy that there was a Sabbath intervening between the first and second, thiuking that some of the interests would be allayed by the lapse of time, and thatactivity on the exchange would be less in consequence.

Bat such was not the cease. The in- terest was, if anything, accentuated, aud the time that intervened only served to make the pot boil more vigorously. The excitement never was more iatezee than it was this morning.

The brokers could hardly wait until the few produciog mines that come on the list before Isabella could be passed. There were several strong advances in the former part of the call, noticeably iv Avaconda and Iogham, but it seemed that tie traders were busbanding their e:.ergies for the battle royal over leabella. They could not cortaim them-~ selves when Ingham closed bat shouted wildly for Isabella, che ye!l coming from all along the rail all at the same time. Caller Wasson had not had time to an- nounce the stock as usual.

A few bids were made in this first insane shout, but nothing could be distinguiehed. Al! sounds sounded alike, and it was alla roar. Caller Wasson pounded ia vain for silence, but the brokers kept on shouting until their voices gave way frem hoaree- ness, and they subsided, wiping the per- spiration oft their foreheads, At last the sound of the gavel could be disiinguished, and then that sound became the most distinct in the tumult as the brokers be- came tired out. Caller Wasson absolute- ly refused to proceed with the cail until order was restored, and he Lad his way.— Denver Republican.
