It is rather ironic to sit here at this typewriter, listening to CIMN throw six- ties rock 'n' roll at me while trying to think up some kind of editorial which .will convince students to do ‘ something about the tuition and residence fee bike which the university is trying to railroad over us.

In the issue of the Cadre Of March 23, Ron Baker poi- nted out that I had made an inaccurate statement concer- ning how much money faculty and administration make in relation to other civil ser- vants on P.E.I. I would like to take this opportunie ty to clear up this matter. The article that I submitted to the Cadre on March 16 stated that "Some" Faculty and Administrators make six to seven times more money than the average civil ser- vant on the Island. The Cadre however, accidently left out the word "Some" when the article was printed thus changing the whole context of the point that I was trying to make. The mistake that I did make was that I should have said "some faculty and administ- rators make 5-7 times more money than the average

I would also like to take this time to commend Ron Baker for successfully dive— rting attention away frOm ' the main points that I was trying to make in my artic— le titled Solutions Requir— ed Concentrated, NOT part- Tine Effort. You were acc— urate in pointing out a mi- stake in my article, but you did not comment on the val— idity of what the entire ar- ticle was Suggesting. The point that I was trying to make,Ron was that the? way in which U.P.E.I. is being administered at preSent, is not working as well as it could. The reason why it is not working as well as it’ could is because we do not' have a soul for this learni- ng environment. Perhaps the most tragic thing about our generation is the turpor into which it has withdrawn. We have drawn nothing from the sixties ex- cept those things which make the turpor easier to maint—

If we do continue on in the turpor, then we'll gain not only the boredom of the fifties but also the fear, the MacCarthyism, the mass hyteria. Fortunately we seem to have not yet taken on those characteristics.,Butl just wait.

If we intend to follow up on the sixties' noble begin- ning (mistake-ridden though, it may have been) then we'd better take more from them- than their music; we need the spirit, the belief in life, yes even the idealism as well.

The music, after all, was only an outgrowth of those
