British Shipping Official Hits U.S. Discrimination

LONDON (AP) — A British shipping official hit out here at United States flag discrimi- nation and warned Britain might be forced to take reprisals to guard its trade interests.

S. shipping legislation ori- ginally was designed to protect U.S. shipping. said Sir Nicholas Cayzer. “but it has enmeshed others in the bureaucratic strait. jacket of mumbo-jumbo and ill. thought-out intentions."

Cayser. chairman of the Brit- ish and Commonwealth Ship- ping Company. told a meeting of the Institute of Transport:

“Obsessed by an anti - trust neurosis, the Americans. by re- cent amendments to the 191 Shipping ct. re trying to rcg- ulate the normal commercial ac- tivities of all liner trades touch- ing the United States.

“Warnings about its effects on others are brushed aside. What a mockery such interference makes out of the traditional con- cept of international shipping. It is an absurd and ridiculous sit- uation."
