Reference was made to the death of Hon. J. D. Stewart, K.C., Premier and Attorney General, whose ambi- tion in political life had been to give the Province sound and satisfactory government. Unfortunately his physical condition had been fatally impaired by his arduous attention to public duties. One of the late Mr. Stewart's noteworthy achi- evements had been the presentation of the daims of the Province before the Duncan Commission in 1926. Regret was also expressed at the death, since the last session of the House, o! Mr. Callum J. Bruce, Fourth District of Queens, who had been held in high esteem in his com- munity and by all who knew him. Sympathy to the bereaved rela- tives in each case was expressed by Mr. Stewart, who then proceeded to the other clauses in the Speech. He was pleased to note the reference to the signs of business recovery, both in this Province and through-
