While iiviog in Charlottetown my aim has been to guard and advance the interests of the imetitution which I re- present, and if I have been also able to please the mercantile community it has been because its business was sound and well conducted. I have lived in a number of ; laces since etarting on my career asa banker, but inno place have I had so many true friends and pleasant compan- ions as in Charlottetown. From the first day I landed in your midst, a perfect stranger, brought here by the Auguat gale of 1893, my reception by the people of Charlottetown has been most cordial and it is with feelings of sincere regret that I now bid you adieu.

I bad expected to spend many more happy days in this delightful isle, the Garden of the Gulf, but those in authority have deemed it wise to remove metoa more responsible position and [ must not allow my desire for personal comfort and pleasure to interfere with my chances of advancement in the profession I have chosen. Fiae.—The alarm this morving sbout one o’clock was for a fire in a house on the Malprque Road a short distance from the city, which was completely destroyed. The house was owned by a woman named Martin, who 18 absent from the province, and was occupied by Patrick Mce- Kenpa. The firemen were on the spot very soon after getting the word, but not before the flames had done their work, The fire is supposed to have been caused by a defective flue. The alarm was given by Mr. J. T. Peardon, who lives near tie scene of the fireand who rode into the city on his wheel. Everything in the house wax destroyed. So far as can be ascertained there was no insurance.

Vest, of Portiand will ship four thousand dozen eggs and about & ton and a half of pou!try, fresh meat and oysters, which he expecis to transport over the Chilkoot Pass to Daweon city by dog train before Christmas. The eggs have all been prepared and are ready for shipment. They were broken into cans, sealed up and then frozen. Vest has four others associated with him and they ex- pect to realize $100,000 out of the veature. They expect to sell the egge at $35 per dozen and the poultry at fabulous pricee.
