Could our forefathers come back what. surprises would they see- clnemss. autos and radios. They had to improvise a great deal. in‘ we have so much more done Ior our comfort and entertainment. Surely one of the most wonderful inventions is the radio. but one often wonders if some of the pro- grammes offered are conducive to the good of the listeners. 0t‘ course we have this compensation, we can turn of! if we do not like what. is offered.

Wonderful is the comfort it can bring to elderly folk in .s lonely counLry place, or to patients In a hospital.

Here again is where we may lack self-discipline, and another sphere where this same self-discipline may be manifest is the cinema. People call each other names too much like neigh- hours quarrelling in their hack yards. We need to constantly re- member that the world has shrunk to small proportions in our day, and yet mentally we are farther» from Russia than 50 years "ago! Radio has a great service to ‘perform in the matter of our en- tertalnment, and this should not always be regulated by what the people want but by what they need. We are not all children. but many programmes would seem to, indicate that we are taken for them. and treated as such. Programmes that sharpen the wits of the listeners, that bring the best in music and art to the attention of the hearers talks on the vital questions of the day by experts, little periods of Devotion In the morning when we are re- minded or where we came from and of where‘ we are going-these are well worth while.
