Following is a copy of a iletter which we have subs mitted to your new Student Unioanresident, Mr. Gordon Campbell} ,Mr. Campbell has .accused one of our.groups, "Taquila", with causing ex- tensive damage" to the UPEI Barn floor, as outlined in .the letter. _ p r The damage which Mr. Campbel referskto has been assessed as costing in the vicinity of $10. to $15. to repair,

We feel the accusation made rby Mr. Campbell, though per- haps justified, is grossly exaggerated, and that the action which he has taken re-, garding the situation is unreasonable and unfair to all concerned. The withholding” ;of payment for the group's performance appears to have other‘motives besides_the “extensive damage" ploy which Mr. Campbell is.employing. we suSpect that perhaps thiS’” individual; and perhaps sev- eral others, are conspiring “with a mainland agency against Island groups in general and ourselves in particular, in forcing us to withdraw our services from the UPEISU, thereby enabling our com- petitor to step in with his grOups with the full backing of the Union. we state here that this is just a suSpicion and we have no: evidence to support the above. However,

Dear Mr. Campbell,

We were deeply disturbed by your telephone message of Friday, March 8, received by Mrs. Boudreau respecting the "extensive damage to the floor and ceiling of the UPEI Barn caused by spikes being driven through the floor and ceiling by a member of mem- bers of the group Taquila on Tuesday March 5," and the sub-

sequent withholding of the $43. owing the group.

As we have done condiderable business with the UPEISU over the past several months, and hope that we may continue

became very concerned about your complaint, as we would not like to lose you as a valued customer. we realize our.agency's reputation is at stake with each perform- ance of any of.our groups, and would not like to see this reputation jeopardized by the thoughtless behaviour of an individual or group ass- ociated with us.

Our first concern was to the damage sustained to the UPEI Barn, and I personally in- vestigated this on Friday afternoon. After careful scru- tiny of the floor in the area where groups perform, I did find two sets of nail holes, in groups of three, on two tiles in the floor. These holes were quite small, probably made by finish nails, and took several minutes to locate, but were, nevertheless, visible to the naked eye if one were specifically looking for them. I did not find any "spike" holes, or any punc- tures in the ceiling below.

I then called Mr. Dan Lavigne, manager for Taquila, for fur— ther information and a poss- ible explanation. He stated that, when the group arrived at the Barn on Tuesday night, the upper floor was in such an untidy state that the girls in the group had to borrow a mop from downstairs in or-

had been on the Mezzanine si- nce the preceeding dance on Thursday, Feb. 28. No one in the group noticed any nail holes, though this is under— standable as the area was dark and the holes quite small. The drummer of the group has yet to be contacted regarding the situation. However, there is some doubt in our mind as to who is responsible for the damage sustained. This damage could have been caused by any group, which played in the Barn prior- to March 5th, and as we were not made aware of the repor— ted damage until Friday, March 8th, it could possibly have been caused by the group wh- I ich played on March 7th. we rig wonder why the long delay in ' '
