The Horses Montreal were on the grounds, and came | in for a 2 wud deal of cI iticism and admuira- tion. ‘i here is no doubt the selection made | to represent this Province at the Vommnion | Exhibition was a very judicious one. The owner of Blackfoot did not enter his horse for a prize, en the ground that having taken the first prize in the Domiion, tt wag not fair that he should compete here. fhe horse was, however, exhibited, and drew down upon his head many varying judgments; but while some thought Rodd’s horse the better one, and some Craswell’s, all agreed that he 1s all but perfect in his pomts. Mr. Rodd’s and Mr. Craswell’s horses were entered, and, of course, took first and second prizes respect ively. All three are really beautiful ani- mals. aud the difficulty the judges had in decsidiny between them is not to be won- dered at. Mr. Mitchell’s herse, which was also of Montreal, was entered, but con- sidered large for the carriage class. For general purposes, there was not, we think, hia equal on the ground. He is a picture of health, strength, activity and everything that goes to make a smart, strong, service able horse. Several other stallions in ms n
carriage class were justly admired. ff fact, all the entries were very fair speci- mens of the noblest of animals.
In the cart stallion class, the competition was rather poor, and the prizes fell with- out difficulty to Meisrs. R. E. Bagnall and Wm. Mills, though there was much ditfer- ence of opinion as to which of tie two was the best. The splendid imported stallion Brown Stout was shown in this class ; but was doubtless considered tuo good to com- pete against Island horses. Of carriage stallions, under three years, there was a fair show, and of carridge fillies quite a large coinpetition. In both classes a good deal of difficulty was experienced in award- ing the prizes—many equal or almost equal in the order of merit. Ibe other classes were as weil represented as could be ex- pected, when it is remembered that the best of our horses been culled out this year for foreign exportation.
