It is an interesting leature oi our time that while scientific discoveries are prolonging human lile and therefore elllciency, mod- ern institutions are retiring their skilled servants at earlier ages than ever. We know of cases where they have thrown on the scrap- lleap men at the height of their power and deprived the interests behind them or the most valuable service that these men could have given.

We all have heard of men who should have been retired before they began, but when men of pro- ven character and ability hale mastered the subject or the job assigned to them, have kept ab- reast of the times. and have ad- ded by experience to their wisdom and efficiency, it seems sheer lolly to retire them when their powers are at their best. just because they
