This is no vain dream. There are many giving their lives to transform their fellows.

One of these meant usually the love of the sexes with its pos- stssn-enoss and its passion. often ntagnlllvcnt in its sclf-surrender, hut often dcbased in literature and life. Another word was used for the love of friendship which frequently took forms of rare at- trsctivt.-nt-ss. but which meant love for the lovable, the quality in your, friend which satisfied your heart. Neither of these words i-nuld express the love of God for a lost world with its wilful tie- nradaiion and wickedness. So the apoetiss chose a colorless .word wnlhiflnesnt ordinarily to prefer. to like. to esteem. and filled it uitn -a Divine content.

This love for sinful men was so treat that it prompttsd the great- est sacrifice that even God could make that sinner: might be saved. rhat love is based. not on what men are-. but on what they can hecomc in Christ. Now that is the attitude which Christ expects His follow- us to take toward their fellows.

only one. It is the choice between love and hate. between kindness and violence. between winning men and crushing them as the way to power.

We have been dealing with some of St. John's teaching: in our last two studies, and he presents God as love and the Son of God as the supreme expression of that love. Christ is God's offer of love as our portion here and hereafter. But that offer flashes before the eyes of every person the terrifying alternative -, the choice between love and hate. and that means love as our destiny of the wrath which is God's reaction to our rejection of His grace.

There is no middle road. Life or judgment, light or darkness. good or evil. life or death, love or lova': opposite in all their forms and phases-these are the alternative: before us. We must choose as individuals. we must choose as nations, and the choice governs destiny.

A: we write the bright colors of May are turning into the gorge- ous green oi June. The wealth of foliage is amazing; the leaves seem to have sprung into action in I day. Each leaf is a little laboratory in which the substances drawn in from the soil and air are changed into the nature of the tree and returned to build up its body and produce its fruit. The leaves are frail; in a few weeks thsy will fade and fall: but the tree which they build up is mighty and will defy time. It is true of each subject of the King of Love that he will fade as u leaf. but when he gives himself to love and its ministries ha builds up a kingdom that will last for- ever.

Fine Recital Al Si. Joseph's

The pupils of the Music De- partment of St: Joseph's Convent presented a very charming re- cital recently. His Excellency Bishop Boyle congratulated the pupils on their good work and the parents on giving their child- ren the advantage of a musical education. The students showed a marked improvement in their playing and no doubt, will con- tinue their course in music.

In the audience were Rev. Leo Harrell, Rev. Berna-rd Glilis, Rev. P. F Msoponald, Rev. Francis Corcoron and Rev. James Smith. the chaplain of the Con- vent. A lsnge number of parents and friends were present and enjoyed the various numbers on the program.

The motion song "Swing Little Birdie”, the playette "On Strike" by Grade I, and the pianopretto "Time Return of the Fairies", are worthy of special mention.

CITY POLICE COURT At the Stlpendiary Magistrate's Court yesterday. three men charged with yagrancy appeared. Two were sentenced to 30 days in jail each and the other was remanded un- til Wednesday. A man convicted of reckless driving was fined I50 and costs or 30 days in jail. Five men charged with being drunk and incapable also appeared. one was sentenced to 20 days in jail. an- other 10 days in jail. and two each fined no and costs or 10 days. and one as .and costs or 10 days. A sixth drunk and incapable failed to appear and had his :10 ball es- treated and a warrant issued for his arrest. Operating a. motor ve- hicle without a drivers permit, an- other man was fined 85 and costs or 10 days. A summary ejectment case was adjourned until June 30th by agreement.

On June 6th, at four o'clock. int, Trinity United Church, Charlotte-i town. P. E. 1.. the marriage of Bernice Eliza daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lewis York, and Doug- las Stuart Moore, son of Mrs. Katie Moore, Mt. Edward Road, was solemnized. The Rev. H. E. D. Ash- ford was the officiating clergyman assisted by Rev. John Douglas, York.

The church was tastefully dec- orated with apple blossoms and potted plants. The wedding music was played by Mr. Lawrence Wright, organist.

The bride was given in marriage by her father, and wore a gown of white not with lose trimmings the fitted bodice having long sleeves and full skirt.

Her beautiful net veil. placed on her blonde hair made her a win- some bride. She carried a. white Bible with lilies of the valley.

Miss Norma. Lewis, who was her sister's bridesmaid. wore a. pale blue taffeta gown, with fitted bod- ice and flared skirt. She carried a nosegay of red roses.

Mr. Sterling Moore, brother of the groom acted as best; man, and the ushers were Laken Lewis and Malcolm Allan.
