Srr,—I( do not think the most captions of your readers will question the propriety of my addressing you on the tunnel under the Straits of Northumberland. Not being & recent convert to the project I may, with- out undue presumption, claim to have earned the right to discuss this subj-ct. Its utility was always known; ita feasibi‘ity, at first laughed at, is now admitted; its cost is shown to be very moderate; the pubiic mind is fast ripening in ita favor. What remains to be done in order that within two or three years the dear old iceboats (let no harsh word be spoken of them, they did ye: man service) may be laid by in museums, side by side with stone imple- ments and woodeu stuves? <A little on the part of Prince Edward Island, but a little that means much.

Surely party spirit will for once be merged in patriotism, private ends become subservient to the public good, and individuals be made « minor consideration than the Province. Could not, for this once, such a union be ffected, such a truce established, as to
